This is a 6-fiber LGX adapter panel loaded with six simplex ST/UPC single-mode adapters, with dust caps for the unused ports. It's a 1.6 mm cold-rolled steel plate, 130 by 30 mm, which is the single-width LGX footprint, with the six bayonet couplers mounted through it. The ST connectors on the pigtails twist onto the back and the patch cords twist onto the front, so one plate turns a spliced 6-fiber single-mode cable, or half of a 12-fiber one, into 6 ST ports, which is three duplex links. It's the plate for an older single-mode plant that is still on ST and isn't being converted. It drops into any LGX slot: the RMFP rack-mount splice-and-patch panels, the RMFP-001 patch-only panel, and any other LGX enclosure. It's sold individually. For the multimode version, the FAP-MM-ST-6S; for 12 single-mode fibers on LC in the same slot, the FAP-SM-LCU-6DF; for the ST pigtails that twist onto the back, the PGTST12-SM; for the cords on the front, the STSTSM, and for ST to an LC switch port, the LCSTSM; for the enclosures, the RMFP-015, RMFP-016, RMFP-018, and RMFP-001.

Features

  • Six simplex ST/UPC adapters, 6 fibers. Single-mode, bayonet couplers, dust caps included.
  • LGX footprint. 130 × 30 mm single-width plate; fits standard LGX panels and enclosures in a 19 in rack.
  • Cold-rolled steel, 1.6 mm.
  • Clip-in adapters. Each coupler can be replaced without changing the plate.
  • Sold individually.

Where It Fits

It suits a campus or a utility site where the single-mode building-to-building links were terminated on ST years ago and the closet is being tidied into an LGX enclosure without re-terminating the plant. It suits a telecom room where a 6-fiber single-mode entrance cable or three duplex ST circuits need a proper panel instead of a loose coupler bracket. Installers repairing or extending a legacy single-mode ST backbone use it, and so do integrators who need one ST plate beside the LC plates in a mixed enclosure so the old gear patches without hybrid cords. A rack that still has single-mode ST patch cords in it is a candidate. It goes with the single-mode bulk fiber, the ST pigtails, the splice trays, and the ST patch cords from the fiber collections, and with the LGX enclosures from the fiber panel collection. For a 1U splice-and-patch panel, the RMFP-015. For 2U, the RMFP-016, and for 4U, the RMFP-018. For a patch-only 1U, the RMFP-001. For a multimode ST plant, the FAP-MM-ST-6S. For 12 single-mode fibers on LC in the same slot, the FAP-SM-LCU-6DF, or 24 on the quad FAP-SM-LCU-6Q. For the pigtails, the PGTST12-SM. For the cords, the STSTSM, and for ST to LC gear, the LCSTSM.

Good to Know

Match the fiber on both sides: this is the single-mode plate, and for an OM1 or OM3 plant the multimode FAP-MM-ST-6S is the one to order, since the two look alike on the rack and a multimode cord in a single-mode panel is the kind of mistake that tests clean at one end and fails at the other. UPC is the flat-polish, and single-mode ST is UPC in practice, with no APC version of ST in general use, so the whole channel is UPC. ST is a bayonet connector: push the cord on, turn it a quarter turn until it locks, and tug gently to confirm it seated, since a half-locked ST reads as a high-loss link. The ports are simplex, so a transmit-and-receive pair is two adjacent ports; label which is which, because ST has no duplex clip to keep polarity for you. Six ST ports is what a single-width LGX plate holds, where an LC plate holds 12 or 24 in the same slot, so if the switches have moved to LC and the ST gear is on its way out, the FAP-SM-LCU-6DF with LC-to-ST cords to the old equipment uses the slot better. Check the LGX slot before you order: 130 by 30 mm is the standard single-width cutout, so the plate fits enclosures built to that pattern, and any slot left empty takes the FAP-BLANK blanking plate. Twist the pigtails onto the back before you mount the plate, since there's more room with the plate in your hand, and leave the dust caps on any port without a cord in it; a 9 µm core is far less forgiving of a speck of dust than a multimode one. Clean and inspect every ferrule before it goes into an adapter, and label the plate's ports by fiber number so the tray and the panel agree.
