The Jonard Tools TK-50 is the pouch a telecom installer reaches for on a simple job: a can wrench to open the box and tighten the binding posts, a splicing knife for the jacket, electrician's scissors with stripping notches for the pairs, and an insulated probe pick for working in the terminal block, all in a molded five-pocket PVC pouch with a belt clip. It's the basic set for opening a telephone box, landing or moving a pair, and closing it up again, without carrying the whole bag, and the pouch has room for the tools in the kit and a couple of your own.

What's in the Kit

• Ergonomic can wrench with wire stripper (M-216CS22). Opens telephone box fasteners and tightens the nuts on binding-post terminals, with a wire stripper built into the handle.
• Ergonomic cable splicing knife (KN-7). Cuts through high-strength cable jackets and insulation, with a non-slip grip for control and comfort.
• Electrician's scissors (ES-1964). Heavy-duty shears with two stripping notches, for 18 to 20 AWG and 22 to 24 AWG wire; one blade is serrated, and the back of the blade carries a scraper and a file.
• Insulated probe pick (JIC-22035). A tough, resilient ABS insulating spudger with an L-shaped wire hook on one end and a flat notched end on the other, for working wires in and out of electrical contacts.
• Molded 5-pocket tool pouch (H-50). Rugged PVC with a metal clip and five form-fitted pockets, sized for the tools in this kit and others.

Good to Know

The scissors' two notches strip 18 to 24 AWG, which covers station wire and most telecom pairs; the can wrench's stripper is a second place to do the same job, and neither is meant for jacketed cable, which is what the knife is for. The probe pick is insulated so it can push, hook, and pull wires at a contact without bridging terminals, but it's a hand tool, not a voltage tester; check for voltage before you reach into a box that could carry anything beyond ringing voltage. The knife is sharp and the scissors are serrated, so both belong in their pouch pockets rather than loose in a bag. The pouch clips to a belt or a bag; the kit has no case, and the dimensions below are the loaded pouch.
