The standard computer cord is 18 AWG, and for a desktop or a monitor on a 6 ft run that's all it needs to be; for a 25 ft run, or a workstation and a laser printer that pull hard, a heavier conductor holds the voltage up and runs cooler. This 16 AWG computer power cord is that step up: a NEMA 5-15P three-prong wall plug to an IEC-320 C13 connector on 16/3 SJT, rated 10 A at 125 V AC for 1250 W, with a 26-strand copper conductor and a junior hard service jacket in place of the lighter SVT. It's listed by UL and CSA at the plug and at the cord, fits the computers, monitors, printers, projectors, and HDTVs that take a C13 from a standard North American receptacle, and comes in six lengths from 1 to 25 ft, so the cord can be the length the run needs. Black, RoHS compliant. For the lighter 18 AWG version of the same cord, the PWRAC; for a 15 A load or a notched C16 inlet, the PWRAD 14/3.

Features

  • NEMA 5-15P to IEC-320 C13. Standard 3-prong wall plug to C13 connector.
  • 10 A, 125 V AC, 1250 W. Cord rated 300 V, 10 A.
  • 16 AWG, 3 conductor. 26/0.25 stranded copper; SJT jacket, 8.6 mm.
  • Six lengths, 1 to 25 ft. Order the length the run needs and keep the cables neat.
  • UL and CSA listed. Plug UL E94923, CSA LR62202; cord UL E313867, CSA LL95737. Dielectric tested at 1500 V AC.
  • RoHS compliant. Black.

Where It Fits

It suits IT shops and help desks that want a heavier cord than the one in the box for workstations, laser printers, and copiers, offices and schools running a computer or a display 15 or 25 ft to the nearest outlet, AV installs powering a projector, an HDTV, or a receiver where the cord takes a long route behind the furniture, network closets feeding a switch or a router that takes a C13 from the wall, anyone who has felt a thin 18 AWG cord run warm on a long run, and a workstation that already has the surge strip, the monitor cables, and the patch cords from the power and copper collections. For the standard 18 AWG cord in ten lengths, the PWRAC, or its right-angle twin the PWRAE; for a 15 A load, a hot-running supply, or a notched C16 inlet, the PWRAD 5-15P to C15.

Good to Know

The heavier conductor doesn't raise the rating: this cord is 10 A and 1250 W like the 18 AWG PWRAC, and the gain is lower voltage drop and less heat at the same load, which matters most at 15 and 25 ft and on equipment that runs near 10 A; a server, a big workstation, or anything with a 15 A nameplate wants the 14/3 PWRAD, and anything with a ridge across its inlet needs the C15 on that cord, since a C13 won't seat in a C16 inlet. SJT is a 300 V thermoplastic jacket rated for indoor junior hard service, a grade up from the SVT on the 18 AWG cords; it's for a desk, an office, or a rack, not for outdoors or for being walked on. At 8.6 mm this is a thicker, stiffer cord than the 6.3 mm 18 AWG, so give it room to bend behind the equipment. Seat the plug fully in the receptacle and the C13 fully in the inlet, since a half-seated connector on a 10 A load runs warm, and pick the length that reaches with a gentle loop and no more.
