This is a 48-port shielded Cat6 patch panel in 1U, preloaded, for a shielded cable plant. The 48 shielded RJ45 ports sit flush in the front of a 16-gauge black powder-coated steel panel, and behind each one is a 110 IDC block that takes solid or stranded 22 to 26 AWG shielded Cat6, with the shield of each cable bonded to the panel and the panel bonded to the rack through the included 18 AWG ground wire. It wires to T568A or T568B, mounts in any standard 19 in rack or enclosure at 3.94 in deep and 6 lb, and it's rated for PoE++ (802.3bt, 4PPoE) up to 100 W. The installation kit is in the box: cable ties, mounting screws, ground wire, and instructions. It's UL listed and RoHS compliant, and it's sold individually. For the shielded jacks and plugs at the other end, the KEY6-SHD and MIG6A-SHD keystones and the PLG-R45-CT6AS and PLG-R45-CAT6-ESS plugs.

Features

  • 48 shielded ports in 1U. Flush-mounted shielded RJ45 ports in a standard 19 in panel.
  • Preloaded 110 IDC. Takes solid or stranded 22 to 26 AWG shielded Cat6; T568A or T568B.
  • Shield bonding built in. Each cable's shield lands on the panel; the panel bonds to the rack with the included 18 AWG ground wire.
  • PoE++ to 100 W. 802.3bt 4PPoE.
  • 16-gauge steel, black powder coat, rounded edges. 3.94 in deep; 6 lb.
  • Plated IDC terminals. Phosphor bronze, 50 µin tin-lead over 50 to 60 µin nickel.
  • Installation kit included. Cable ties, mounting screws, ground wire, instructions.
  • UL listed, RoHS compliant. TIA/EIA-568 A and B wiring.

Where It Fits

It suits industrial and plant networks where the Cat6 runs beside motors, VFDs, and welders and the whole plant is shielded end to end, hospitals and labs with imaging and test equipment on the same floor as the data, broadcast and AV facilities where Ethernet shares a tray with power and audio, data centers and telecom rooms standardizing on F/UTP or S/FTP, any site with an EMI problem or a grounding requirement in the spec, and a job that already has the shielded bulk Cat6, the 110 punch-down tool, the FOIL-001 copper strips, and the shielded patch cords from the copper collections. For the shielded jacks at the work area, the KEY6-SHD; for shielded Cat6A, the MIG6A-SHD; for the shielded plugs, the PLG-R45-CT6AS, PLG-R45-CT6AI, and PLG-R45-CAT6-ESS; for an unshielded plant, the unshielded panels in the collection.

Good to Know

A shielded panel only shields if the chain is complete: the cable's shield has to land on the panel at every port, the panel has to be bonded to the rack with the ground wire, the rack has to be bonded to the telecom grounding busbar, and the jacks and plugs at the far end have to be shielded too. One unshielded link, or a ground wire left coiled in the box, turns the shield into an antenna. Bond the shield at one end of each link only unless the two ends share a ground, since a shield grounded at both ends in two buildings carries the ground difference as current; in a single building on a common busbar, bonding at the panel is the usual choice. Mount the panel and connect the ground wire first, then land the cables: strip the jacket, fold the foil or braid back over it where the port's shield clamp lands, lay the drain wire along it, keep the twist in each pair to within half an inch of the IDC, lay the conductors by the color code in T568A or T568B to match the jacks at the far end, and punch down with a 110 tool, blade's cutting edge outward. Use solid-conductor cable for horizontal runs. 48 ports in 1U is dense, so plan a horizontal cable manager above or below for the patch cords and label as you go. On PoE++ ports carrying 100 W, a clean punch on every conductor matters more than for data alone. Shielded Cat6 is stiffer and thicker than unshielded, so give the bundle behind the panel room and a gentle bend; the panel is 3.94 in deep, which is worth checking against a shallow wall cabinet before ordering.
