Long F connectors and RG11 connectors are the ones a standard compression tool can't hold square: too long for the head, too big for the jaws, and the sleeve goes on crooked. The Jonard Tools CTF-360XL is built for them. Its patented rotatable head gives full 360° support to the connector, with specially designed jaws that hold it in place while it's compressed, so long F connectors on RG59 and RG6 and the F connectors on RG7 and RG11 go on straight and seat fully. The design is fixed, with no adjustment to make between connectors, and it accommodates PCT and other brands. The tool is high carbon steel with a black oxide finish, the hinge is spring loaded so it opens on its own after each connector, the grips have finger grooves for support on the squeeze, and a ring loop holds it closed in the pouch. It's 6.22 in and just under a pound.

Good to Know

The connector's instructions set the strip dimensions, and the compression tool only finishes the job the strip started: prep the cable to the connector maker's lengths, fold the braid back over the jacket, push the connector on until the dielectric is flush with the inside of the connector face, then set the connector in the head, let the jaws take it, and squeeze until the handles stop. The rotatable head is what lets the tool support a long connector all the way around; turn it to the position the connector seats in rather than forcing a connector into the wrong one. Check the finished connector: the sleeve fully driven with no gap, the center conductor straight and standing proud of the face by the connector maker's dimension, and no turning or pulling on the cable. A connector that compresses with no resistance usually means the cable wasn't pushed in far enough, and on RG11 that's easy to do, since the cable is stiff. This tool is for long F connectors on RG59 and RG6 and for F connectors on RG7 and RG11; for standard short F connectors on RG59 and RG6 the CTF-180 is the better fit, and BNC and RCA compression connectors take different tools. Let the spring open the handles, slip the ring loop on before the tool goes in a pouch, and keep the head clear of jacket bits so the connector seats square. A wipe of oil on the pivot and the head now and then keeps the black oxide tool from stiffening.
