24-Port Shielded Cat6A Patch Panel, 1U, 10G, PoE++ 100 W, with Ground Wire and Install Kit (PP6ASR-24)

This is a 24-port shielded Cat6A patch panel in 1U, preloaded, for a shielded 10 Gigabit plant. The 24 shielded RJ45 ports sit flush in the front of a 1.5 mm (16-gauge) SPCC steel panel with a black powder coat, and behind each one is an IDC block that takes solid or stranded 22 to 26 AWG shielded Cat6A, with the shield of each cable bonded to the panel and the panel bonded to the rack through the included 18 AWG ground wire. It wires to T568A or T568B, mounts in any standard 19 in rack or enclosure at 4.3 in deep and 3.6 lb, and it's rated for PoE++ (802.3bt, 4PPoE) up to 100 W. The installation kit is in the box: cable ties, mounting screws, ground wire, and instructions. It's UL listed and RoHS compliant, and it's sold individually. For 48 ports in the same 1U, the PP6ASR-48; for shielded Cat6, the PP6ZR-24 and PP6ZR-48; for the shielded Cat6A jacks and plugs at the other end, the MIG6A-SHD keystone and the PLG-R45-CT6AS, PLG-R45-CT6AI, and PLG-R45-CAT7 plugs.

Where It Fits
It suits data centers and server rooms running 10GBASE-T over shielded Cat6A to the full 100 m. It suits industrial and plant networks where the Cat6A runs beside motors, VFDs, and welders and the whole plant is shielded end to end. Hospitals and labs with imaging and test equipment on the same floor as the data use it, and so do broadcast and AV facilities where Ethernet shares a tray with power and audio. It's the right size for a telecom room or IDF standardizing on S/FTP or F/UTP where 24 ports covers the floor, and for a shielded wall cabinet or a small rack where a 48-port panel is more than the job needs. Any site with an EMI problem or a grounding requirement in the spec is a candidate. It goes with the shielded bulk Cat6A, the punch-down tool, the FOIL-001 copper strips, and the shielded Cat6A patch cords from the copper collections. For the shielded Cat6A jacks at the work area, the MIG6A-SHD. For the shielded plugs, the PLG-R45-CT6AS, PLG-R45-CT6AI, and PLG-R45-CAT7. For 48 ports, the PP6ASR-48. For shielded Cat6, the PP6ZR-24 and PP6ZR-48. For an unshielded plant, the unshielded panels in the collection.
Good to Know
A shielded panel only shields if the chain is complete: the cable's shield has to land on the panel at every port, the panel has to be bonded to the rack with the ground wire, the rack has to be bonded to the telecom grounding busbar, and the jacks and plugs at the far end have to be shielded too. One unshielded link, or a ground wire left coiled in the box, turns the shield into an antenna. Bond the shield at one end of each link only unless the two ends share a ground; in a single building on a common busbar, bonding at the panel is the usual choice. Mount the panel and connect the ground wire first, then land the cables: strip the jacket, fold the foil or braid back over it where the port's shield clamp lands, lay the drain wire along it, keep the twist in each pair to within half an inch of the IDC, lay the conductors by the color code in T568A or T568B to match the jacks at the far end, and punch down with the blade's cutting edge outward. Cat6A at 500 MHz is less forgiving of untwist than Cat6, so the half inch matters here, and a certifier test on the finished links is worth the time. Use solid-conductor cable for horizontal runs. Twenty-four ports in 1U leaves more room between ports than the 48, but a horizontal cable manager above or below still keeps the patch cords tidy, and label as you go. On PoE++ ports carrying 100 W, a clean punch on every conductor matters more than for data alone. Shielded Cat6A is the stiffest and thickest of the copper cables, so give the bundle behind the panel room and a gentle bend; the panel is 4.3 in deep, which is worth checking against a shallow wall cabinet before ordering.
