12-Strand LC/UPC OM3 Multimode Fiber Pigtail, No Jacket, 2 Meter (PGULC12-OM3)
Couldn't load pickup availability
This is a 12-fiber multimode OM3 LC/UPC pigtail, 2 meters long, with no outer jacket. Each of the 12 OM3 50/125 µm fibers has a machine-polished, factory-tested LC/UPC connector on one end and bare fiber on the other for fusion or mechanical splicing. Because there's no jacket, the 12 strands fan out loose from the connector end, which makes them easy to route to a splice tray and lets them bend tighter inside a crowded enclosure than a jacketed fan-out would. The LC end plugs straight into an adapter panel, so a 12-fiber OM3 cable spliced to this pigtail becomes 12 LC ports in one tray. OM3 carries 10 Gigabit Ethernet to 300 meters. It's sold individually, as one 12-strand pigtail. For OM4, the PGULC12-OM4; for the single-mode LC/UPC version, the PGULC12-SM; for SC/UPC on OM3, the PGUSC12-OM3; for the enclosure, the RMFP rack-mount panels and the WMFP wall-mount boxes; for the LC adapters and the fusion splicer, see the fiber collections.
Features
- 12 fibers, LC/UPC. Multimode OM3, 50/125 µm, with a UPC connector on each strand.
- 10 Gigabit to 300 meters. OM3 laser-optimized fiber.
- Unjacketed fan-out. The 12 strands route loose to a splice tray and bend tighter than a jacketed cable.
- 250 µm buffer. No outer jacket.
- Machine-polished, factory-tested. Low insertion loss and return loss.
- For fusion or mechanical splicing. Bare fiber at the splice end.
- 2 meter length.
- Sold individually. One 12-strand pigtail.
Where It Fits
It suits a building backbone or a data center interconnect running 10 Gigabit over OM3 between closets or rows, where LC is the port on the switch and the panel. It suits fiber distribution units and optical distribution frames in a telecom room, and splice trays in a wall-mount box. Crews splicing a 12-fiber OM3 cable out to LC ports in one tray use it, and so do installers adding LC capacity to an existing OM3 plant. A high-density panel where 12 LC ports have to come out of one tray is a candidate. It goes with the OM3 bulk fiber, the multimode LC adapters, the splice trays and sleeves, and the fusion splicer from the fiber collections. For OM4 and 40G or 100G, the PGULC12-OM4. For single-mode LC/UPC, the PGULC12-SM. For an SC plant on OM3, the PGUSC12-OM3. For rack-mount splice panels, the RMFP-016 and RMFP-018. For a wall-mount box, the WMFP-011. For the OM3 patch cords on the other side of the panel, the LCLCOM3, and for LC to SC, the LCSCOM3.
Good to Know
Match the fiber, not just the connector: this is OM3 50/125 µm multimode, and it has to be spliced to 50 µm OM3 or OM4 cable and patched with OM3 or OM4 cords. Splicing it to 62.5 µm OM1 or to single-mode fiber puts a core mismatch at the splice, with loss that no amount of cleaning will fix. OM3 carries 10GBASE-SR to 300 meters and Gigabit well beyond that; for new 10 Gigabit runs over 300 meters, or for 40G and 100G, the OM4 version on OM4 cable is the better plan. The strands are 250 µm, which is the bare coated fiber with no 900 µm tight buffer over it, so handle them as you would the fibers inside a loose-tube cable: they belong in a splice tray with 250 µm holders or in a tray that takes a protection sleeve, and they need to be dressed carefully, since a 250 µm fiber has no extra padding against a sharp edge. Strip the coating back to bare glass, cleave, splice to the incoming cable, and seat the sleeve in the tray. With no jacket there's no strength member, so the pigtail is for inside an enclosure only, never for a run between boxes, and the bundle wants to be tied loosely to the tray so the connectors aren't carrying the fibers' weight. Keep the bend radius generous even though the bare strands will tolerate tighter curves than a jacketed cable; the splice point is where a hard bend shows up as loss. Splice in the standard color sequence and match it to the incoming cable's buffer tubes so the as-built is honest. Clean and inspect every LC connector before it goes into an adapter, and keep the dust caps on until then; an LC ferrule is small and a speck of dust covers a lot of it. If 2 meters is more than the tray needs, coil the excess in the slack ring rather than cutting it short.
