12-Fiber LC/UPC Single-Mode OS2 Pigtail, Unjacketed, 2Meter (PGULC12-SM)

This is a 12-fiber single-mode LC/UPC pigtail, 2 m long, with no outer jacket. Each of the 12 OS2 fibers is a separate strand with a machine-polished, factory-tested LC/UPC connector on one end and bare fiber on the other for fusion or mechanical splicing. Because there's no jacket, the 12 strands fan out loose from the connector end, which makes them easy to route to a splice tray and lets them bend tighter inside a crowded enclosure than a jacketed fan-out would. The LC end plugs straight into an adapter panel, so a 12-fiber cable spliced to this pigtail becomes 12 LC ports in one tray. It's sold individually, as one 12-strand pigtail. Where It Fits

It suits data centers and enterprise LANs terminating single-mode backbone in a rack panel, where LC is the port on the switch and the panel. It suits fiber distribution units and optical distribution frames in a telecom room, and splice trays in a wall-mount box. FTTH and FTTX crews splicing a 12-fiber drop out to LC ports use it, and so do CATV and premise installers building out a fiber enclosure. Any high-density panel where 12 LC ports have to come out of one tray is a candidate. It goes with the single-mode bulk fiber, the LC adapters, the splice trays and sleeves, and the fusion splicer from the fiber collections. For SC/APC instead, the PGUSC12-SMA. Good to Know

UPC is the flat-polish connector, usually blue, and it mates with UPC adapters and UPC cords; don't put it against an APC adapter or an APC cord, since the angled face meets the flat one with an air gap and the loss goes up. For a PON or an RF-over-glass plant that specifies APC, the PGUSC12-SMA is the right pigtail. Strip the buffer and the coating back to bare fiber, cleave, splice to the incoming cable, and seat the sleeve in the tray; the 12 strands are sized for a tray's holders and a splicer's clamps. With no jacket there's no strength member, so the pigtail is for inside an enclosure only, never for a run between boxes, and the bundle wants to be dressed and tied loosely to the tray so the connectors aren't carrying the fibers' weight. Keep the bend radius generous even though the bare strands will tolerate tighter curves than a jacketed cable; the splice point is where a hard bend shows up as loss. Splice in the standard color sequence and match it to the incoming cable's buffer tubes so the as-built is honest. Clean and inspect every LC connector before it goes into an adapter, and keep the dust caps on until then; an LC ferrule is small and a speck of dust covers a lot of it. If 2 m is more than the tray needs, coil the excess in the slack ring rather than cutting it short.
