12-Strand LC/UPC OM4 Multimode Fiber Pigtail, Removable Jacket, 3 Meter (PGTLC12-OM4)

This is a 12-fiber multimode OM4 LC/UPC pigtail, 3 meters long, with a removable aqua outer jacket. Each of the 12 OM4 50/125 µm fibers has a factory-tested LC/UPC connector on one end and bare fiber on the other for fusion or mechanical splicing. The jacket protects the bundle on the way from the box to the tray and can be stripped back as far as you need, so the strands fan out loose where the space is tight and stay bundled where it isn't. The LC end plugs straight into an adapter panel, so a 12-fiber OM4 cable spliced to this pigtail becomes 12 LC ports in one tray. OM4 carries 10 Gigabit to 400 meters and 40G and 100G to 150 meters. It's sold individually, as one 12-strand pigtail. Where It Fits

It suits a data center or a data hall running 10, 40, and 100 Gigabit over OM4 between rows, where LC is the port on the switch and the panel and the tray is a rack unit or two away from the adapters. It suits fiber distribution units and optical distribution frames in a telecom room, and splice trays in a wall-mount box on a campus backbone. Crews who want the bundle protected on the route from the splice tray to the adapter plate use it, and so do installers splicing a 12-fiber OM4 trunk out to LC ports where the trunk arrives at the back of a deep cabinet. A high-density panel where 12 LC ports have to come out of one tray is a candidate. It goes with the OM4 bulk fiber, the multimode LC adapters, the splice trays and sleeves, and the fusion splicer from the fiber collections. For the unjacketed 2 meter OM4 version, the PGULC12-OM4. Good to Know

Match the fiber, not just the connector: this is OM4 50/125 µm multimode, and it has to be spliced to 50 µm OM4 or OM3 cable and patched with OM4 or OM3 cords. Splicing it to 62.5 µm OM1 or to single-mode fiber puts a core mismatch at the splice, with loss that no amount of cleaning will fix. OM4 carries 10GBASE-SR to 400 meters and 40G and 100G SR4 to 150 meters; splicing OM4 pigtails onto an OM3 cable doesn't lift the OM3 limits, since the link runs at the reach of its weakest fiber. Decide how much jacket to remove before you cut: the jacket is the strength member and the snag guard, so leave it on for the length of the route between the adapter plate and the tray and strip it only where the strands have to fan out and bend, which is usually the last foot or so at the tray. A 3 meter pigtail gives you a meter more than the unjacketed version for exactly that reason; coil the excess in the slack ring rather than cutting it short. Strip the buffer and the coating back to bare fiber, cleave, splice to the incoming cable, and seat the sleeve in the tray; set the splicer for multimode. Dress the bundle and tie it loosely to the tray so the connectors aren't carrying the fibers' weight, and keep the bend radius generous even where the strands are bare. Splice in the standard color sequence, blue through aqua for fibers 1 through 12, and match it to the incoming cable's buffer tubes so the as-built is honest. Clean and inspect every LC connector before it goes into an adapter, and keep the dust caps on until then; an LC ferrule is small and a speck of dust covers a lot of it.
