The jack is already installed and wired, so the job is to bring the phone cable in, land its conductors on the jack's terminals, and put the cover on. Good to Know

Pick the mounting by the surface and the pull: screws anywhere the cord will be tugged or the box is on a baseboard that gets kicked, tape on a clean painted or laminate surface that won't be stressed, and wipe the surface with alcohol and press firmly before the line goes in. Pop the cover, bring the cable in through the top entry, land the pairs on the jack's terminals (a single phone line is one pair, on the center two positions, which is 6P2C; a second line or a 6P4C cord uses the next pair out), and snap the cover back on. Keep the twist in the pair as close to the terminals as you can, since untwisted telephone pair picks up hum and crosstalk. This is a telephone-grade jack, not an Ethernet one; an RJ45 plug won't fit, and a DSL modem needs only the phone pair anyway. The jack's wiring type isn't stated on the page, so bring both a punch-down tool and a small screwdriver the first time until you know which it is. Match the color to the wall plates already in the room; white and ivory look alike in the box and different on the wall.
