Cat6 Surface Mount Box - Pre-Wired | 1-Port & 2-Port | White (SMB002-6)
Couldn't load pickup availability
This is a Cat6 surface mount box with the keystone jacks already loaded, in a 1-port or 2-port version, white. Each port holds an unshielded Cat6 keystone jack with 110-type punch-down terminals, so the box arrives ready to terminate: mount it, bring the cable in, punch down the eight conductors, and plug in. It mounts on a wall, a desk, or any flat surface with the screws or the double-sided tape in the box, so there's no cutting into drywall and no sourcing jacks and a box separately. It's sold individually, and it needs a 110 punch-down tool, which isn't included. For a blank box you load yourself, the SMB006; for four ports, the SMB005-4PWHI.

Where It Fits
It suits office and home network drops where the Cat6 arrives at a wall with no box behind it, workstations and desktops that need one or two jacks at the desk, IP cameras and other PoE devices mounted where a plug-in connection point is wanted, the wall behind a switch, an access point, or a printer, retrofits where opening the wall isn't worth it for a data jack, and a job that already has the bulk Cat6 and the 110 punch-down tool from the copper collections. For a blank box you load with your own jacks, in one or two ports, the SMB006; for four ports, the SMB005-4PWHI; for a permanent splice instead of a jack, the SMB001-6AJB; for a pre-wired phone jack, the SMB004-RJ11.
Good to Know
Pick the mounting by the surface and the pull: screws into a stud, a block wall with anchors, or furniture hold best and are the right choice anywhere a cord will be yanked; the tape is for a clean painted or laminate surface and a box that won't be stressed, and it wants a wipe with alcohol and firm pressure before the cable goes in. The jacks are loaded but not terminated, so bring the 110 tool: strip the jacket, keep the twist in each pair to within half an inch of the terminals, lay the conductors by the jack's color code in T568A or T568B to match the far end, and punch down with the blade's cutting edge outward. Use solid-conductor cable, since 110 IDC terminals are made for solid 23 to 24 AWG and won't hold stranded patch cord. Pop the jack out of the box to punch it down if you want more room, and snap it back in. The jacks are unshielded, so this is a box for unshielded Cat6; shielded cable needs a shielded jack so the drain wire has somewhere to land. A Cat6 jack makes a Cat6 link, which carries Gigabit to 100 m and 10 Gigabit only over short runs; for 10 Gigabit at full distance, Cat6A jacks in a blank SMB006 or SMB005-4PWHI.
