Blank Surface Mount Box - 1-Port & 2-Port | White & Ivory (SMB006)

This is a blank surface mount box for one or two keystone jacks, in white or ivory. It takes any standard keystone insert, so a single box can hold Ethernet, phone, coax, HDMI, USB, or fiber in whatever mix the location needs. It mounts on the wall surface with the screws, cable ties, or double-sided tape in the box, so there's no cutting into drywall, and the enclosed housing keeps dust off the back of the jacks. The body is UL 94V-0 flame-retardant ABS, 50 by 50 by 30 mm, with a knockout for the cable. It's sold individually, as a bare box with the mounting hardware; the jacks are separate. For four ports, the SMB005-4PWHI; for the jacks, the KEY6-90 and MIG6A-90 for unshielded Cat6 and Cat6A, the KEY6-SHD and MIG6A-SHD for shielded, and the KEYCAA F-81 coupler for coax.

Good to Know

Pick the mounting method by the surface and the pull: screws into a stud, a block wall with anchors, or furniture hold best and are the right choice anywhere a cord will be yanked; the adhesive tape is for a clean painted or laminate surface and a box that won't be stressed, and it wants a wipe with alcohol and firm pressure before the cable goes in; the cable ties are for a post, a pipe, a rack upright, or a desk leg. Open the knockout before you mount the box, since it's easier with the box in your hand. Terminate the jacks before you snap them in, and leave enough slack behind the wall or in the tray to pull the box off and re-terminate later. A keystone box takes any brand's standard keystone, but shielded jacks only shield if the cable's shield is bonded at the jack and the far end, so a shielded jack in a plastic box still needs its drain wire landed. At 50 by 50 by 30 mm the box is small; one Cat6A cable loops in it comfortably and two want a careful dress with the slack kept outside the box, so for stiff or shielded cable in the 2-port, plan the entry so the cables don't fold. Match white or ivory to the plates already in the room; they look alike in the box and different on the wall.
